Cotter provided project management and document control services for the UIUC State Farm Center renovation. The arena is an architectural and engineering marvel but after five decades of use, it was showing its age. In April 2008, the State Farm Center (formerly Assembly Hall) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) was added to the list of the top ten endangered Illinois historic sites, as identified by Landmarks Illinois, a non-profit historic preservation group. The iconic building was completed in 1963 and was the first arena to be built with a concrete dome, which is 400 feet in diameter with a center height of 125 feet, prompting the university to conduct a full-scale renovation.

The renovation included mechanical rooms, basements, new C-section seats, a newly painted court floor, new B-section suites, “premium” seating areas, new “grand” entrances on the east and west sides, as well as new bathrooms, concessions, locker rooms, scoreboards, and ribbon boards. The renovation replaced portions of the exterior wall with glass to expand the arena’s interior space.

Cotter provided project management and document control services as a sub-consultant for this notable project, which was constructed in phases in order to avoid disruptions to UIUC sports schedules.
